• The post holder will work within the Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team to provide a mental health service seven days a week, within a community setting, by providing an urgent response and/or psychosocial assessment to those who present with a range of mental health problems and who are in mental health crisis.

Providing and undertaking timely biopsychosocial assessments and risk management plans in accordance with CPFTs Clinical Risk Assessment and Management policy for adults presenting to the Emergency Department with mental health problems. Promoting a safe and effective service throughout the Emergency Department; this will be through training and giving expert advice and support to nursing and medical teams within the Emergency Department Maintaining a visible, professional presence where patients, carers and staff can turn for assistance, advice and support. As part of the Liaison Psychiatry Service, the post-holder will contribute to the multidisciplinary clinical assessment and management of patients referred to the service in collaboration with other team members. To participate in and promote close links with community mental health teams and other agencies to develop effective care plans.

About the 1:1 Teaching role:   

Hourly Rate: £25 - £30 per hour 

Location: Peterborough and surrounding areas e.g. March, Huntingdon, Grantham, Chatteris

Days required: 5 days per week- Monday to Friday (Term time only)

Flexible working hours: 9am-12pm and/or 12pm-4pm

Main duties of the job

To Undertake the PGDip Specialist Community Public Health Nurse training (SCPHN – health visiting) to develop the knowledge and skills required to function safely and effectively as a SCPHN (Health Visitor) and lead practice within the public health agenda through support, education and guidance of the Higher Education Institute and Practice Supervisor, Practice Assessor and Professional Lead.

The course is full time over 52 weeks with 50% of your time being academic study and the other 50% will be practice experience within a Healthy Child Programme 0-19 locality team. Annual Leave is set by the Universities and this is not negotiable. Students are employed on a fixed term contract for the duration of the course at midpoint B5 (Agenda for Change) Grade step 3.

1. To attend all educational sessions as directed by the University, submitting assignments promptly as required, to achieve all objectives to the standard required. To develop new skills and knowledge showing integration of theory and practice.
2. To maintain a close liaison with the Practice Assessor throughout the course and to agree a clinical learning programme which will facilitate and support theoretical learning and reflect the value of practice centred education. Personal responsibility to identify and highlight any areas of concerns regarding progress and development (clinically, academically, and personally) before these become problematic.
3. To increasingly understand the wider determinant of health and seek to address health inequalities across diverse communities and populations.
4. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual/family focused programs of care (universal, targeted and specialist pathways), under the direction of the practice supervisor and assessor and work in partnership with other agencies e.g. support services for families, social care, early years provision/schools etc. Maintain professional record keeping standards ensuring records are accurate and contemporaneous in line with Trust policy and NMC standards.
5. To develop an awareness and involvement in the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme with support and guidance from the Practice Supervisor and Practice Assessor whilst utilising the skills and knowledge of the wider health visiting / school nursing team. Developing into an autonomous practitioner throughout the course, taking responsibility for the care given to children / young people / families within own limits of competency and confidence.
6. To be aware of and demonstrate increasing skills and knowledge in assessment and decision making in relation to safeguarding concerns associated to adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) Ensure concerns are responded to appropriately in line with local safeguarding policy and interagency safeguarding procedures and access appropriate training and supervision.
