What you’ll be doing

Working as our next Health Physics Monitor, your daily roles and responsibilities will include carrying out activities to support regulatory compliance primarily with the Ionising Radiations Regulations and Environmental Permitting Regulations.

The range of activities include, but are not limited to routine radiation and contamination surveys, radioactive source accountancy, radiation and contamination instrument first line repairs and calibrations, clearance monitoring, environmental monitoring, sampling and analysis of radioactive effluents, solid radioactive waste processing, on-job monitoring for Operations and Maintenance as required.

You will also be required to participate in the nuclear emergency scheme and will receive suitable remuneration for this.

Who you are

We’re looking for you to hold a basic understanding of legislation and company processes relevant to Radiological Protection. As a minimum as well, you will be qualified to GCSE level or higher within relevant fields including Mathematics and English and candidates with a C&G in Radiation Safety Stage 1 will have a distinct advantage. Additional qualifications supporting knowledge in a role like this would be desirable.

Previous experience of working within a Radiological Protection environment along with a strong understanding of radiation safety practice in the nuclear field would be desirable.

Collaborate with, Safety Compliance Lead, Commissioning Environmental Compliance Lead Commissioning Fire Coordinator Safety, HPC Principal Contractor Organisation and Commissioning engineers/contract partners. You will be required to be registered with the GTCS. You are required to obtain and maintain registration including paying any fees. Please note, teachers in their probationary year are welcome to apply for temporary, un-promoted vacancies although would be paid at the probationer rate of pay (Main Grade Scale Point 0) at £31,584 per year (pro-rata, if applicable).

Head Teacher Reports

Candidates successful at interview need to download and print the appropriate Report. You need to complete the applicant details section and sign the form and then pass to your current HT to complete the assessment sections and sign the form. The form then needs to be sent to Human Resources by email to interview.support@inverclyde.gov.uk and cc the recruiting HT into the email.

As part of the wider ASCC team, you will be part of a rota mainly covering Bridgwater police custody. You may also need to provide some cover to Taunton, Yeovil and North Somerset Magistrates Court, and will be part of a voluntary attenders project, a service for those individuals who are suspected of committing an offence but interviewed at a police station or other location voluntarily, rather than being arrested and brought into police custody At times you will be working autonomously, completing rapid assessments and screening reports, but with support available from the senior practitioners and / or Band 6 colleagues. You will also complete monthly data returns as required by the Liaison and Diversion programme. You will offer professional guidance, advice and an educative role to colleagues working within the criminal justice system, and liaison with community services. This involves a commitment to close partnership working with both statutory and voluntary sector agencies and a commitment to working with an often complex and diverse range of individuals with varying needs.

To guide assessment, formulation and treatment planning for people with mental health problems, this will include developing formulations for patients, and to assist other practitioners in primary and secondary care including voluntary sector workers to develop formulations as appropriate in relation to their caseload. To act as lead professional for a caseload of people with mental health difficulties and developing their care plan, coordinating and reviewing their care and treatment outlined in the plan, at times offering direct individual and group interventions to these and other patients where appropriate. To promote best practice in positive risk management amongst teams working with this patient group. To provide liaison into Primary and Secondary Care services, building relationships with GPs and other health professionals. To participate in wider multidisciplinary working across primary and secondary care services. Ensure that carers needs are assessed, and appropriate intervention or onward referral is provided depending on need. To work collaboratively and flexibly with the multi-professional teams within Neighbourhoods to co-ordinate a coherent approach towards a mild to severe mental illness, actively promoting continuity of care and approach between services and to co-ordinate working practices. Providing effective assessment using a recovery approach and strengths model. Establishing, maintaining and ending purposeful, therapeutic relationships with people experiencing mental health difficulties. Practice will be creative and underpinned by specialist knowledge of, and skills in, evidence-based and psychosocial interventions. Using knowledge of psychological therapies (for example CBT and CAT) in order to work with people preparing for and participating in specific therapeutic work and to work collaboratively with people during periods of consolidation. Delivering services using a recovery and strengths approach where solution focused intervention, motivational interviewing and communicating hope are central. Using developed persuasive, negotiation and re-assurance skills to facilitate and enable engagement. Working with people experiencing relapse using a recovery approach to promote strengths and reduce the risk of dependency on mental health and other services. Assessing risk in collaboration with people experiencing mental health difficulties, significant others and other workers/professionals, alongside use of own professional judgement and team processes. This involves exploring individuals risk of harm to themselves and/or others and may involve working with challenging, hostile and distressing behaviour. Identifying strengths-based Recovery Plans and Risk Management Plans with individuals and other relevant people. Taking responsibility for communicating Recovery Care Plans, risk management plans and other important information to relevant people, professionals and agencies as appropriate. Encouraging individuals to take the lead in sharing information wherever possible. Undertaking care management processes through assessment of needs, identification of appropriate placement/packages of care, presenting funding requests to the Trusts panel and monitoring and reviewing agreed placements/packages. Communicating highly complex information to a range of people and professionals with a wide range of levels of understanding. Identifying barriers to understanding and using creative methods to overcome them. Communicating highly complex information between mental health practitioners and partner agencies including medical staff such as clinical information and investigations. Identifying changed level of risk in relation to clinical investigations and mental state and distinguishing critical information that requires urgent action or rapid onward referral. Providing and receiving highly complex and sensitive information in relation to Safeguarding and Child Protection work and taking appropriate action. This includes identifying and appropriately reporting concerns to Childrens Social Care while using communication skills in order to maintain a professional working relationship with parents and significant others in often hostile and highly emotive situations. Identifying adult protection concerns, raising alerts and participating in Safeguarding Adults processes. Communication can be highly emotive and there can be significant barriers to acceptance of the approach and intervention of mental health services, for example when requests conflict with the rights and wishes of an individual experiencing mental health difficulties. Identifying and engaging with practitioners with specialist knowledge, for example by requesting specialist knowledge or clinical supervision sessions where appropriate.
